Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assembling the Pizza

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.

  2. 6

    Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll or stretch the dough into a 12-inch round pizza shape.

  3. 7

    Add Ricotta

Spread the ricotta cheese evenly across the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 8

    Add Mozzarella

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the ricotta layer.

  5. 9

    Mix Calabrian Maple Sauce

In a small bowl, mix the Calabrian chili paste with maple syrup. Drizzle this mixture over the cheese.

  6. 10

    Sprinkle Poppy Seeds

Evenly sprinkle the poppy seeds over the top of the pizza.

  7. 11

    Bake Pizza

Transfer the assembled pizza to the hot stone or a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  8. 12

    Garnish and Serve

Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven. Sprinkle chopped fresh basil on top before slicing and serving.
