Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

Mushroom Topping Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté the Mushrooms

In a separate skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms, salt, and black pepper. Sauté until the mushrooms are browned and tender, about 5-7 minutes.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking the patties, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

  2. 6

    Toast the Buns

While the cheese melts, lightly toast the burger buns in the same skillet or on a separate pan until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato. Add the cheese-topped patty, followed by the sautéed mushrooms. Top with ketchup and mustard, if desired, and cover with the top half of the bun.
