Funnel Fry Batter

Method

Prepare the Batter

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Fry the Funnel Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  2. 5

    Prepare the Funnel

Using a funnel, fill it with the batter. If you don’t have a funnel, a squeeze bottle or piping bag can work as well.

  3. 6

    Fry the Funnel Fries

Hold the funnel over the hot oil and release the batter in a circular motion, creating a spiral pattern. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  4. 7

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the funnel fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  5. 8

    Dust with Powdered Sugar

While still warm, dust the funnel fries with powdered sugar before serving.
