Method

Prepare the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to create a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and add a slice of cheddar cheese on top. Continue cooking for another 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 5

    Slice the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Set aside.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Toast the Buns

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, layer the lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, red onion rings, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then place the top half of the bun over the toppings.
