Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
- 2
Prepare the Ham
Remove the Virginia ham from its packaging and place it in a large roasting pan. Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern, making shallow cuts about 1 inch apart.
- 3
Create the Glaze
In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, and ground black pepper. Mix well to form a thick glaze.
- 4
Add Liquid
Pour apple cider vinegar and water into the bottom of the roasting pan, ensuring that it covers the bottom to prevent the ham from drying out during baking.
Baking
- 5
Apply the Glaze
Brush the glaze generously over the scored surface of the ham, making sure to get it into the cuts.
- 6
Bake the Ham
Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 1.5 to 2 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the pan juices.
- 7
Glaze Again
In the last 30 minutes of baking, remove the foil and apply another layer of the glaze to the ham. This will help create a caramelized crust.
Serving
- 8
Prepare for Serving
Once the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C), remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.
- 9
Garnish the Ham
Optionally, garnish the ham with pineapple slices and maraschino cherries to add a festive touch.
- 10
Carve and Serve
Carve the ham into thin slices and serve on a carving station for guests.
