Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Cut each potato into long strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to create fries.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature to ensure the oil is hot enough for frying.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato strips and pat them dry with paper towels. Make sure they are as dry as possible to avoid oil splatter during frying.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until the fries are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Your Fries

Transfer the seasoned fries to a serving plate. Enjoy them hot with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, mayonnaise, or aioli.
