Method
Calamari Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Mix the Coating
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to ensure an even distribution of spices.
- 3
Coat the Calamari
Toss the dried calamari rings in the flour mixture until they are evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of the coated calamari into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- 6
Drain the Calamari
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Serving Garnish
- 7
Prepare the Garnish
While the calamari is frying, cut the lemon into wedges and chop the fresh parsley.
- 8
Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot, garnished with lemon wedges and sprinkled with fresh parsley.
