Onion Rings
Method
Preparation
- 1
Slice the Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well until all dry ingredients are fully incorporated.
- 3
Prepare the Batter
Gradually add the cold water to the dry mixture, whisking until you achieve a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 365°F (185°C).
- 5
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the prepared batter, ensuring they are fully coated before carefully placing them in the hot oil.
- 6
- 7
Drain the Onion Rings
Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 8
Serve
Once all the onion rings are fried and drained, serve them hot as a crispy side dish.
