Method
Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Linguini
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add linguini and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 9-11 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 2
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the linguini in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse as you want the starch to help the sauce adhere.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
- 3
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- 5
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
- 6
Add Fresh Basil
Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
Combining and Serving
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained linguini to the marinara sauce in the skillet. Toss until linguini is well coated with the sauce.
- 8
Serve
Plate the linguini marinara and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
