Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Topping Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Garlic Oil

In a small saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  2. 6

    Slice the Mozzarella

While the dough is rising, slice the fresh mozzarella cheese into thin rounds.

  3. 7

    Prepare the Basil

Rinse the fresh basil leaves and pat them dry with a paper towel.

Pizza Assembly

  1. 8

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.

  2. 9

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll or stretch it out into a 12-inch circle.

  3. 10

    Add Sauce and Toppings

Spread 1 cup of tomato sauce evenly over the dough. Arrange the sliced mozzarella on top, then drizzle with garlic oil, and sprinkle with salt and black pepper.

  4. 11

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  5. 12

    Add Fresh Basil

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately scatter the fresh basil leaves on top.

  6. 13

    Serve

Slice the pizza and serve hot, drizzled with additional olive oil if desired.
