Method

Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving the drippings in the skillet.

  3. 3

    Caramelize the Onion

In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, add the sliced onion and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (about 15-20 minutes).

  4. 4

    Sauté the Mushrooms and Garlic

Add the sliced mushrooms to the caramelized onions and sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Cooking the Proteins

  1. 5

    Cook the Chicken

In a separate skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced chicken, season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook until browned and cooked through (about 6-8 minutes).

  2. 6

    Cook the Shrimp

In the same skillet, add the shrimp and cook for 3-4 minutes until pink and opaque. Remove from heat.

Combine and Bake

  1. 7

    Make the Cream Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until well mixed.

  2. 8

    Combine Ingredients

In a large baking dish, combine cooked penne, bacon, chicken, shrimp, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and cream sauce. Mix well to ensure everything is coated.

  3. 9

    Bake

Preheat your wood-fired oven or conventional oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the ziti for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.

Serving

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the baked ziti from the oven, garnish with fresh basil, and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
