Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour, shaking out the excess. Place them on a baking tray.

Making the Cake Batter

  1. 3

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until melted and smooth.

  2. 4

    Mix in Sugar

Add granulated sugar to the melted chocolate mixture and stir until well combined.

  3. 5

    Add Eggs and Yolk

Add the large eggs and egg yolks to the mixture, whisking until fully incorporated.

  4. 6

    Combine Dry Ingredients

Sift the all-purpose flour and salt into the chocolate mixture. Add the vanilla extract and fold gently until just combined.

Baking the Cake

  1. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly distribute the batter among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  2. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 9

    Cool Slightly

Remove from oven and let the cakes cool for 1 minute before inverting onto plates.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve with Ice Cream

Serve immediately while the centers are still molten, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
