Patty Melt
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onion
Slice the medium onion into thin rings.
- 2
Cook the Onions
In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and sauté for about 10-15 minutes until they are golden brown and caramelized. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- 3
Shape the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.
Cooking
- 4
Cook the Patties
In the same skillet used for the onions, add another tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip the patties.
- 5
Add Cheese
After flipping the patties, place two slices of American cheese and two slices of Swiss cheese on top of each patty. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.
- 6
Assembly
- 7
Assemble the Patty Melt
On one slice of toasted marble rye, place a cheeseburger patty topped with caramelized onions. Top with another slice of toasted rye to form a sandwich. Repeat for the second patty melt.
- 8
Serve
Cut the patty melts in half diagonally and serve hot with your favorite side, such as fries or a salad.
