Method

Country Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Tenderize the beef round steak using a meat mallet until about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Dredge the Steak

In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Dredge each piece of steak in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Wash

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.

  4. 4

    Fry the Steak

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each floured steak into the egg wash, then return to the flour mixture for a second dredge. Fry the steaks in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 5

    Cook the Sausage

In a separate skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled.

  2. 6

    Make the Gravy

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.

Hashbrowns or Tater Tots

  1. 7

    Prepare the Hashbrowns/Tater Tots

Heat vegetable oil in a separate skillet over medium heat. Add the frozen hashbrowns or tater tots and cook according to package instructions until crispy and golden brown.

Toast

  1. 8

    Toast the Bread

In a toaster or skillet, toast the slices of bread until golden. Spread with butter before serving.
