Corn Dog Batter and Filling

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Hot Dogs

Insert wooden skewers into each hot dog, pushing them in about halfway.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, combine milk and egg, then mix into the dry ingredients until just combined. The batter should be thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle immediately.

  4. 4

    Coat the Hot Dogs

Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Corn Dogs

Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Turn occasionally for even cooking.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce.
