Prepare the Onions
Peel the onion and slice it into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the cold water and mix until the batter is smooth.

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Coat and Fry
Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it's well-coated. Carefully place the coated rings into the hot oil, frying them in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Drain and Serve
Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and drain them on paper towels. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
