Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Apple Filling

In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Crust

On a floured surface, roll out one disc of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place the rolled-out crust into the pie dish.

  5. 5

    Fill the Pie

Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  6. 6

    Make the Topping

In a bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter until crumbly. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple filling.

  7. 7

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. If the edges of the crust brown too quickly, cover them with foil.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
