Rinse the navy beans under cold water and remove any debris. Soak the beans in a large pot of water overnight.

Drain and rinse the soaked beans. In a pot, combine the beans with 6 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour or until the beans are tender. Drain and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beans, chopped onion, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

In a large baking dish, layer the chopped bacon at the bottom. Pour the bean mixture over the bacon.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until bubbly and slightly caramelized on top.
