Prepare the Glass
Rub the rim of a chilled glass with a lime wedge and dip it into salt to coat the rim. Set aside.

Mix the Ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and simple syrup (if using).

Shake Well
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.

Strain into Glass
Strain the mixture into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
