Method
For the Chicken Katsu
- 1
Prepare the Chicken
Start by placing the boneless chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap. Use a meat mallet or rolling pin to gently pound the chicken to about 1/2 inch thickness. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- 2
Set Up Breading Stations
Set up three shallow dishes. In the first dish, place the flour. In the second dish, beat the eggs until well mixed. In the third dish, add the panko breadcrumbs.
- 3
Bread the Chicken
Dredge each piece of chicken in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, then coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs, pressing down gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere.
- 4
Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded chicken. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
For the Tonkatsu Sauce
- 5
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the tonkatsu sauce, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and sugar. Stir until well blended.
- 6
Serve
Slice the cooked chicken katsu into strips and serve with the tonkatsu sauce on the side for dipping.
