Pastry and Bread Ingredients
Method
Baking Directions
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add in the milk, eggs, sugar, salt, and melted butter. Mix well.
Incorporate the Flour
Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Pastries
After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes for pastries or loaves for bread.
Second Rise
Place shaped pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool.
Glaze (Optional)
For a sweet finish, mix powdered sugar with a little water and vanilla extract to make a glaze. Drizzle over cooled pastries.
