Fried Green Tomatoes
Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Green Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick slices. In a bowl, mix the flour with salt and black pepper. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a third bowl, add the cornmeal.
- 2
Coat the Tomatoes
Dip each tomato slice first into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk, and finally into the cornmeal, ensuring they are well coated.
- 3
Fry the Tomatoes
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated tomato slices in batches, frying until golden brown on both sides, approximately 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- 4
Prepare the Green Beans and Okra
While frying the tomatoes, bring a pot of water to a boil. Blanch the green beans and okra for about 3-4 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- 5
Serve
Arrange the fried green tomatoes on a platter and serve with ranch dressing and sweet pepper relish on the side. Garnish with fresh sprouts and serve the blanched green beans and okra alongside.
