Method

Prepare

1

Chill the can

If the soda is not already cold, place the unopened can in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or submerge in an ice bath for 10–15 minutes until well chilled. Cold soda tastes crisper and foams less when opened.

2

Prepare glass and ice

Select a highball or pint glass. Add approximately 1 cup of fresh ice cubes to the glass, filling it about two-thirds to three-quarters full depending on glass size.

Assembly

3

Open and pour

Hold the can upright, twist or wipe the rim if needed, then open the can carefully. Pour the soda slowly down the inside of the glass at a slight angle to minimize foam and preserve carbonation until you reach about 1/2 inch from the top (approximately 12 fl oz total poured).

4

Add optional flavor

If using a flavored syrup, add 1 teaspoon to the glass and stir gently once or twice with a long spoon to combine without excessive agitation. For citrus, squeeze a wedge of lime or lemon over the drink and drop the wedge in. Add a maraschino cherry or mint sprig if desired.

5

Adjust and serve

Taste and adjust garnish to preference. Serve immediately with a straw or reusable stirrer to preserve carbonation and enjoy.

Cleanup

6

Discard any remaining soda in the can into a compost-safe drain or recycle the can. Rinse glass and utensils after use.
