Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the meat sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, combine ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned.

  2. 2

Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until the onion is translucent.

  3. 3

Stir in tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

    Prepare the cheese mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until smooth.

  5. 5

    Cook the lasagna noodles

While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  6. 6

    Assemble the lasagna

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom.

  7. 7

Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the meat sauce.

  8. 8

Repeat the layers once more. Top with the remaining noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

  9. 9

    Bake the lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

  10. 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  11. 11

Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
