Cocktail Preparation

Prepare Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine equal parts brown sugar and water. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Mix the Cocktail
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz of Malort, 1 oz of St. Germaine Elderflower Liqueur, 1 oz of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, and 0.5 oz of brown sugar simple syrup.

Shake
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.

Strain
Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass using a fine mesh strainer to catch any pulp.

Garnish
Twist a piece of grapefruit peel over the drink to release its oils and drop it into the glass as a garnish.
