Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks for easier marination.

  2. 2

    Make the Marinade

In a large bowl, mix together the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and liquid smoke until well combined.

  3. 3

    Marinate the Pork

Place the pork shoulder chunks into the marinade and ensure they are fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

  2. 5

    Prepare for Baking

Place the marinated pork shoulder into a roasting pan and cover it tightly with aluminum foil.

  3. 6

    Bake the Pork

Bake the pork in the preheated oven for approximately 4 to 5 hours or until it is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  4. 7

    Make the BBQ Sauce

While the pork is baking, prepare the BBQ sauce by combining the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally for about 20 minutes.

  5. 8

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Then, using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

  6. 9

    Combine with BBQ Sauce

Mix the shredded pork with the prepared BBQ sauce until fully coated. Serve warm.
