Dough and Filling

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and warm the milk until lukewarm. Add the warm milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients along with the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Make the Filling

In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon, nutmeg, and optional flavor of your choice. Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a rectangle, then spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly on top.

  4. 4

    Roll and Cut the Dough

Starting from one end, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side up in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

  5. 5

    Bake the Buns

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Finish with Glaze

Allow the buns to cool slightly, then drizzle with a glaze made from powdered sugar and a little milk until a pourable consistency is achieved.
