Flan Base
Caramel Sauce
Method
Prepare Caramel Sauce
- 1
Make the Caramel
In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves. Stop stirring and let it boil until it turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.
- 2
Coat the Baking Dish
Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden while you prepare the flan base.

Pour into Baking Dish
Carefully pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
Bake Flan
- 5
Prepare the Water Bath
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan baking dish into a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish. This water bath helps the flan cook evenly.
- 6
Bake
Place the baking pans in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
- 7
Cool Down
Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for about 30 minutes. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to set completely.
Serve
- 8
Unmold and Serve
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel sauce to drizzle over the top. Slice and enjoy!
