Method

Chips

  1. 1

    Cut the Tortillas

Cut each corn tortilla into 6 equal triangles using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Fry the Chips

Carefully add a handful of tortilla triangles to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Make sure not to overcrowd the pot.

  4. 4

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt while still hot.

  5. 5

    Repeat

Continue frying the remaining tortilla triangles until all chips are cooked.

Salsa

  1. 6

    Prepare the Ingredients

Dice the tomatoes and onion, chop the cilantro, and finely chop the jalapeño pepper (remove seeds for less heat if desired).

  2. 7

    Mix the Salsa

In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime juice (squeezed from the lime), jalapeño, and salt.

  3. 8

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the salsa and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or lime juice to taste.

  4. 9

    Chill and Serve

Let the salsa sit for at least 15 minutes for the flavors to meld together. Serve with the homemade tortilla chips.
