Cocktail
Garnish & Glass
Method
Prep
- 1
Prepare glass
Choose a chilled coupe or rocks glass (preferred). Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass to moisten it, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse sea salt to coat. Set glass aside.
Mixing
- 2
Fill a cocktail shaker two-thirds full with ice.
- 3
Add 2 oz silver (blanco) tequila, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 0.75 oz Cointreau, 0.25 oz agave syrup, and 1 dash orange bitters (if using) into the shaker.
- 4
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled. Vigorously shaking ensures the correct dilution and texture for the Margarita.
- 5
Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer (or fine Hawthorne strainer) into the prepared salted-rim glass. Use a single strain if serving on the rocks over fresh ice, or a double strain for a clear, chilled pour in a coupe.
Finish & Garnish
- 6
If serving on the rocks, add 1–2 large ice cubes to the salted rocks glass before straining. If serving up, do not add ice to the glass.
- 7
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Optionally express a lime peel over the drink for extra aroma, then discard or drop into the cocktail.
- 8
Serve immediately.
