Ingredients

Fresh Orange Juice

Preparation

Fresh Orange Juice

1. Prepare oranges

Wash the oranges thoroughly under cool running water to remove any residues. Roll each orange firmly on the countertop using the palm of your hand to loosen the juice inside.

2. Cut and juice

Cut each orange in half crosswise. Using a manual citrus juicer or an electric citrus press, juice all the orange halves into a measuring cup or large bowl. Aim to extract as much juice as possible by pressing and twisting.

3. Strain (optional)

If you prefer pulp-free juice, pour the freshly squeezed orange juice through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean pitcher, pressing with a spoon to extract remaining liquid. If you like pulp, skip this step.

4. Sweeten and balance

Taste the orange juice. If it tastes too tart for your preference, stir in up to 1 tablespoon granulated sugar until dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavor and stir to combine. If no sugar is needed, omit or reduce accordingly.

5. Adjust consistency (optional)

If the juice is very concentrated or pulpy, stir in up to 1 cup cold water to thin it to your desired strength. Add the water gradually, tasting as you go until the balance of sweetness and acidity is to your liking.

6. Chill and serve

Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the orange juice over the ice. Garnish each glass with an orange slice and a sprig of mint if desired. Serve immediately for best freshness.

7. Storage

Store any leftover juice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. Stir or shake before serving, as natural separation may occur.
