Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Carnitas
If you haven't done so already, cook the carnitas by slow cooking pork shoulder with spices (like cumin, garlic powder, and chili powder) for about 6-8 hours until tender. Shred the cooked carnitas with a fork.
- 2
Prepare the Nacho Base
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Spread the tortilla chips evenly on a large baking sheet.
Assembling the Nachos
- 3
Layer the Cheese
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses evenly over the tortilla chips.
- 4
Add the Carnitas
Evenly distribute the shredded carnitas over the cheese layer.
- 5
Add the Beans
Sprinkle the rinsed black beans over the carnitas layer.
- 6
Bake the Nachos
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Finishing Touches
- 7
Add Fresh Toppings
Remove the nachos from the oven and top with dollops of sour cream, shredded lettuce, and sliced jalapeños.
- 8
Serve
Serve the nachos hot, ideally with additional sour cream or salsa on the side.
