Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Meat
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or chicken. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
- 2
Add Seasoning
Once the meat is cooked, drain any excess fat. Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
Assembling Tacos
- 3
Warm Taco Shells
If using soft taco shells, warm them in a microwave for 30 seconds. If using hard taco shells, place them on a baking sheet and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes.
- 4
Fill the Shells
Take a taco shell and spoon in the seasoned meat mixture. Be generous to ensure each taco is filled.
- 5
Add Toppings
Top the meat with shredded lettuce, cheese, diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, and cilantro as desired. You can also add a dollop of sour cream and salsa on top.
- 6
Serve
Serve the tacos immediately while warm, alongside extra toppings if desired.
