Fried Pickle Spears

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Start by draining the pickles and patting them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Dredge

In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Batter the Pickles

Dip each pickle spear into the buttermilk, then coat it in the dredge mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully add the battered pickle spears to the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ranch dressing for dipping.
