Preparation

1

Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add in the salt and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.

2

Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.

3

Shape the Pretzels

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.

4

Boil the Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

5

Add Sesame Seeds

Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the boiled pretzels before baking.

6

Bake

Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

7

Serve

Let the pretzels cool slightly before serving with mustard.
