Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the vanilla extract and cold water until the dough comes together.

  2. 2

    Chill the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Roll Out the Dough

After chilling, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.

  4. 4

    Shape the Pastries

Cut the rolled dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Twist each strip into a torcetti shape (a spiral or knot).

  5. 5

    Prepare for Baking

Place the twisted pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the torcetti for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Enjoy the pastries warm or at room temperature.
