Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheets
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Fold in Figs and Nuts
Gently fold in the chopped figs and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed in the dough.

Scoop and Bake
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden.

Cool and Serve
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
