Method
Pizza Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest setting (around 500°F or higher) with a pizza stone inside if you have one.
- 6
Prepare Sauce
In a bowl, crush the San Marzano tomatoes with your hands and season with salt to taste.
- 7
Shape Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 2-3 balls. On a floured surface, stretch each ball into a circle using your hands.
- 8
Add Toppings
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, tear fresh mozzarella into pieces and place on top, add fresh basil and drizzle with olive oil.
- 9
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone or a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbling.
