Fried Calamari

Method

Fried Calamari

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and fennel seeds.

  3. 3

    Coat the Calamari

Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture until well-coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Working in batches, fry the calamari for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Add Cherry Peppers

Fry the cherry peppers in the remaining oil for about 1 minute until they are slightly blistered.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the fried calamari with aioli on the side for dipping. Garnish with fried cherry peppers.
