Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the potatoes

Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly, about 2-3 mm thick. Rinse the slices in cold water to remove excess starch and pat them dry with a towel.

  2. 2

    Prepare the cream mixture

In a saucepan, combine the triple cream, minced garlic, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Heat gently until just warmed through, then remove from heat.

  3. 3

    Assemble the gratin

Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F). Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer half of the potato slices in the dish, then pour half of the cream mixture over them. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cream.

  4. 4

    Add cheese and bake

Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the top. Dot with small pieces of butter. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.

  5. 5

    Serve

Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your Gratin Dauphinois!
