Preparation of Chocolate Base

Melt the Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Whisk Together Eggs and Sugar
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened, about 3-4 minutes.

Whip the Heavy Cream
In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.

Fold Cream into Chocolate Mixture
Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture in three additions, being careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
Setting the Marquise

Transfer to Mold
Pour the chocolate mixture into a lined loaf pan or a mold of your choice. Smooth the top with a spatula.

Cover the mold with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set.
Serving

Unmold and Garnish
Once set, carefully unmold the marquise onto a serving platter. Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with fresh berries if desired.
