Tea concentrate

Method

Tea concentrate

  1. 1

    Boil water

Bring 1.5 cups of water to a rolling boil in a small saucepan or kettle (about 3–4 minutes).

  2. 2

    Steep tea

Place 2 tablespoons black tea leaves (or 2 standard black tea bags) and the optional 1 tablespoon tea blend into a heatproof container. Pour the boiling water over the tea, cover, and steep for 4 minutes for a brisk, clean unsweetened flavor. Avoid oversteeping to prevent bitterness.

  3. 3

    Strain

After steeping, strain the tea leaves through a fine-mesh sieve or remove the tea bags. Allow the concentrate to cool to room temperature (about 15–20 minutes).

Finish and serve

  1. 4

    Combine with cold water

Pour the cooled tea concentrate into an 18.5-ounce (about 550 ml) bottle or serving pitcher. Add 16 oz (about 475 ml) cold filtered water to dilute to an unsweetened ready-to-drink strength similar to a bottled unsweetened tea. Stir gently to combine.

  2. 5

    Chill

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill, or serve immediately over ice for a cold beverage.

  3. 6

    Garnish (optional)

If desired, add 1 cup of ice to the bottle or glass and garnish with 2 lemon slices. Serve cold.
