Blackened Tuna

Method

Blackened Tuna

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tuna

Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Apply Blackening Spice

Coat both sides of the tuna steaks generously with the blackening spice mix.

  3. 3

    Sear the Tuna

Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat until it shimmers. Add the tuna steaks and sear for about 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if desired.

  4. 4

    Rest the Tuna

Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Asian Slaw

  1. 5

    Combine the Vegetables

In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, sliced red bell pepper, chopped green onions, and chopped cilantro.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together the sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, honey, salt, and pepper.

  3. 7

    Toss the Slaw

Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss well to combine. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to marinate.

House Dressing

  1. 8

    Mix the Dressing

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Whisk until smooth.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

On a serving plate, place a generous serving of the Asian slaw. Slice the blackened tuna and arrange it on top of the slaw.

  2. 10

    Add the Dressing

Drizzle the house dressing over the tuna and slaw before serving.
