Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Unwrap the string cheese sticks and freeze them for at least 30 minutes to firm them up. This helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up the Breading Station

In three separate bowls, set up the breading station: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with bread crumbs mixed with garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Take a frozen cheese stick and coat it in flour, shaking off the excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place the breaded cheese sticks into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add dried basil, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.
