Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Cutting the Potatoes
Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into 1/4-inch thick strips to create hand-cut fries.
- 2
Soaking the Fries
Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.
- 3
Drying the Fries
After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 4
Heating the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.
- 5
Frying the Potatoes
Carefully add a portion of the dried fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Draining and Seasoning
Remove the fries from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste while they are still hot.
- 7
Serving
Serve the hand-cut French fries immediately while hot and crispy.
