Cooking Instructions
- 1
Sauté the Aromatics
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
- 2
Add Beans and Seasonings
Add the canned pinto beans (including their liquid), cumin powder, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- 3
Cook the Beans
Using a potato masher or the back of a fork, mash the beans to your desired consistency while cooking for about 10 minutes, allowing the mixture to thicken and flavors to meld.
- 4
Finish with Lime Juice
Once the beans are heated through and mashed, stir in the lime juice. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
- 5
Serve
Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh chopped cilantro. Serve warm as a side dish or filling for tacos or burritos.
