Patti Melt Assembly

Method

Cooking the Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patty

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form the beef into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patty

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patty and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Grilling the Onions

  1. 3

    Slice the Onion

Peel and slice the medium onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Cook the Onions

In the same skillet used for the patty, add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.

Assembling the Patti Melt

  1. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

On one slice of rye bread, place the cooked patty, followed by the caramelized onions and top with Swiss cheese.

  2. 6

    Grill the Patti Melt

Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on the outer side of each slice of bread. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet over medium heat. Grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  3. 7

    Serve

Once the cheese has melted and the bread is toasted, remove the sandwich from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
