Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Rub the USDA choice Striploin steak with olive oil, then season both sides with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Grill the Steak

Preheat the grill to high heat. Place the seasoned steak on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.

  3. 3

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. This helps to retain the juices.

Onion Rings Preparation

  1. 4

    Slice the Onion

Peel and slice the medium onion into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 5

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually whisk in the cold water until a smooth batter forms.

  3. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 7

    Fry the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place them into the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Slice the rested steak and place it on a serving plate. Top with the crispy onion rings for garnish.
