Lasagna Layers

Method

Prepare the Meat Sauce

  1. 1

    Cook the Beef

In a large skillet, over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Onions and Garlic

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Prepare the Ricotta Mixture

  1. 4

    Mix the Cheeses

In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.

Cook the Lasagna Noodles

  1. 5

    Boil Noodles

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a clean surface.

Assemble the Lasagna

  1. 6

    Layer Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place three lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and more meat sauce. Repeat the layers, ending with noodles and a final layer of meat sauce topped with mozzarella and the remaining Parmesan cheese.

Bake the Lasagna

  1. 7

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Prepare the Vegetables

  1. 8

    Steam the Vegetables

While the lasagna is baking, steam the mixed vegetables until tender, about 5-7 minutes.

Prepare the Garlic Bread

  1. 9

    Make Garlic Butter

In a small bowl, combine softened butter, garlic powder, and chopped parsley. Mix well.

  2. 10

    Spread on Bread

Slice the French bread in half lengthwise and spread the garlic butter mixture generously on both halves.

  3. 11

    Toast the Bread

Place the bread on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 10 minutes until golden and crispy.

Serve

  1. 12

    Plate the Dish

Once the lasagna is baked, let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with steamed vegetables and garlic bread on the side.
