Method

Roast Beef Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Roast

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Rub the beef roast with olive oil, then season it generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  2. 2

    Roast the Beef

Place the seasoned beef roast in a roasting pan. Pour 2 cups of beef broth into the pan, covering the bottom. Roast in the preheated oven for about 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

  3. 3

    Rest the Beef

Remove the roast from the oven, cover it with foil, and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Brown Gravy Preparation

  1. 4

    Make the Gravy

In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour to create a roux, cooking for about 2-3 minutes until it turns golden brown.

  2. 5

    Add Broth and Seasoning

Gradually whisk in 4 cups of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Continue to whisk until the mixture is smooth and thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into quarters. Place them in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil.

  2. 7

    Cook the Potatoes

Boil the potatoes until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.

  3. 8

    Mash the Potatoes

Add 4 tablespoons of butter and 1 cup of milk to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Assembly and Serving

  1. 9

    Assemble the Dish

Slice the rested roast beef thinly. Place slices of roast beef on a slice of white bread, generously ladle brown gravy over the beef.

  2. 10

    Serve with Mashed Potatoes

Serve the hot roast beef with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and extra gravy if desired.
